So recently, I came across with this ancient Roman text by Horace.  Where I knew few beautiful things.  No imaginary characters, no storyline, nothing yet , I find it really interesting. It’s basically a literary criticism . Which is full of advice for the authors .

Horace (65–8 BCE) was a Roman poet of the Augustan Age.
He wrote Odes, Satires, Epistles, and Ars Poetica.
Famous for carpe diem (“seize the day”) and the “golden mean.”
His work blends wit, philosophy, and literary criticism.

About ” THE ART OF POETRY “

Horace says poetry is no different than an art painting . He beautifully  explains poetry should reflect truth as an art piece.  ( No unrealistic stuffs ). He says an author is allowed to add imaginary characters,  good plot and so on but never the things that can not happen. Okay let give an example – an author cannot add imaginary characters like three headed beast with a body of human … cause that simply doesn’t exist. A poetry should reflect the real characters and human behavior -a child’s character should be like a child( playful, unaware about the world) , an adult ( should be workaholic, mature and kind)  and many more character descriptions for various types of people.  According to Horace a writer shouldn’t rush to publish his works but should be more patience, cause after publishing once the writer can’t correct his mistakes.

How it affected me?

So this was first time ever I enjoyed something without a storyline.  That too an ancient text .  A sudden thought striked in my mind, that this the kind of genre we actually love ,I mean just pick up any ( The bell jar , No longer human , A man’s search for meaning and many more ) that are realistic with good plots . And this idea was coined before century.  How creative a writer is tho!! My overthinking mind said “oh my he saw future???”  I am horrible ,I know . Anyways it’s a must read text containing only 476 lines. If you are into literature or love reading should give it a try . And can create delusional thoughts like me too( if you are unemployed enough) .
